This type of tree is described as a “large shrub,” but ours is actually 30 feet tall and spreading. True to its name, though, the birds love it. In the spring it has clusters of wonderfully fragrant white flowers. Share

$175. One of my husband’s longest-standing friends (once you get to a certain age, you no longer call them “old”), Ron Coleman, owns a winery in Walla Walla, WA, named Tamarac Cellars. Walla Walla is a picturesque town in the Palouse, and if you’ve never seen it, you’re really missing something. I set up one of Ron’s wine bottles with a violin for my watercolor group to paint as a still life one day, and think they went together quite nicely.
