South Lake Union from the Virginia V

The Virginia V is a paddle-wheeler from the Mosquito Fleet, which used to ply the Puget Sound, ferrying people and goods across the water between Seattle and various destinations on the Olympic Peninsula. The craft’s owners generously invited my watercolor group to paint aboard this summer, and we spent several afternoons on the deck, painting the surrounding scene. Share...

$150. The number three represents stability. Think of a three-legged stool: two legs are not enough; a third is required for balance. I’m blessed to have two sisters, and the three of us are very close. Any time I see three of anything, it reminds me of my sisters. I made this painting in the Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle.

$175. Once a month, the Seattle Plein Air artists’ meetup group gets together at Fisherman’s Terminal in Seattle. A group of fishermen walking by were amazed at what I was doing. “Why d’ya want to paint Jack’s old dory when there are so many NICE boats around?!” they exclaimed. My explanations were received with knitted brows until I finally said, “You know how artists are…” At that they nodded and continued on their way.
